Most Marvel fans were really disappointed in not seeing X-men: First Class cast in the San Diego Comic-Con but don’t worry because director Matthew Vaughn is still assembling his cast in anticipation of the August start of production. Twilight fans will be happy to know that, even though Taylor Lautner won’t be joining the cast, at least one member of the Twilight family will be suiting up as an X-Man. According to Deadline, Edi Gathegi, who played the vampire Laurent in the Twilight Saga movies, has signed on to play the mutant Darwin in X-Men: First Class.
Who is Darwin?
Darwin is one of the lesser-known mutants in the X-Men universe, making his debut only four years ago in the comic books on which the movie is based. Unlike most mutants who have a single power or ability, Darwin’s power of “reactive evolution” grants him different powers depending upon the circumstances he finds himself in. If burned, his mutant power kicks in and makes his skin invulnerable to fire; if drowned, he grows gills; if exposed to the vacuum of space, his body adapts to withstand the heat and temperature pressures; and so on.
Gathegi joins a cast that already includes James McAvoy as Prof. X, Michael Fassbender as Magneto, Caleb Landry Jones as Banshee, Nicholas Hoult as Beast, Alice Eve as Emma Frost, Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique, and Lucas Till as Havok. Bryan Singer and Lauren Shuler Donner are producing.
