Two interesting characters are coming to Burn Notice season 6.

Entertainment Weekly confirms that Jere Burns and Kristanna Loken will both play important roles on season six, as the former reprises the character of Anson and the latter will be back as Rebecca.

According to a USA source, Anson will be seeking “other devious resources to enact his plans” after being thwarted by Fiona on the season five finale. Will these include Rebecca, outed as a double agent on that same episode? It’s safe to assume.

John C. McGinley has booked a role on Burn Notice season 5.

Scrubs vet McGinley is trading in his scalpel for some more heavy duty machinery.

The veteran actor has nabbed a recurring role on the upcoming sixth season of Burn Notice as the CIA training officer who taught Michael Westen (Jeffrey Donovan) everything he knows, The Huffington Post reports.

The summer finale of Burn Notice season 5 definitely gave us thrills and quality entertainment. I could not ask for more with what I saw. Let’s discuss what happened below.

TV Fanatic: Michael came face-to-face with the last man who burned him; too bad he just framed him and Fiona and had both of them “Dead to Rights.”

As cliff-hanger finales go, this was near perfect. The overarching story of Michael being burned got more interesting, but the smaller part we have been chasing since Max’s death was wrapped up. Matt Nix, would you please teach the other shows how it’s meant to work?

I was going to say that the Tavien storyline felt like it ended abruptly, given that just last week Tavien wanted to talk to Michael so much he kidnapped Sam to make it happen. Then, when push came to shove, he opted for a swan dive off the parking structure.

Really??! The man has been a ghost for months, one step ahead of the Scooby Gang all season, we finally get to learn more about him… and he punches his own ticket?
If only things were that simple for Michael. I was blown away by Anson’s reveal that he was behind Max’s murder and Tavien. The fact that Tavien was only a hired gun and Anson was behind Max’s death made Tavien’s fatal deceleration trauma make so much more sense.

It looks like Nix and company granted two of the wishes I have mentioned over the past several weeks. The first being a bad guy we could see and with whom Michael could interact.

Fullerton (played by Jere Burns) looks to be Michael’s strongest and most intelligent nemesis to date. Michael is going to have to work twice as hard to outsmart someone who thinks several moves ahead and has stacked the board in his favor.

Then there’s the return of Agent Pearce. Her admission that she was going to still be Michael’s contact made me super happy. I think she will forgive Michael, as her anger subsides she will remember all the good he has done since she met him and in time they will be BFFs.

Okay, maybe not, given that he will most likely hide (again) the fact he is being blackmailed by Anson “for her own good.” Maybe Michael will learn his lesson and surprise me by telling her early on so she can help, but I’m not holding my breath.

On the flipside, now that Pearce is going to be around, I can resume hoping that she and Jesse will hook up! Perhaps a proper date? Seeing as he’s trying to be an honest man. Women like that, right?

We should take a moment and bow our heads in silence for Larry Sizemore. We won’t, but we should.

In reality, I don’t actually believe Larry is dead. He’s been “dead” a few times and it doesn’t tend to stick. Until Michael or Fiona uncovers a body, I’m assuming we will see Larry again.

However, I can say that Fiona’s method of luring him to the window and then blowing him to away was really ingenious. Minus that whole “blew up two innocent guards” part.

This episode showed us why we Burn Notice reaches five seasons. “Better Halves” is way better than last week’s episode. Let’s dig in.

One thing we learned from the extraction mission is that Michael is either an idiot or isn’t ready to settle down.

I’m going with the latter, based on his behavior. Consider when he slapped the ring into Fiona’s hand and when she invited him to the tub after snuggling on the couch… and he turned her down. Then, finally when he took the ring back and kept it “for another mission.”

All of these moment made it pretty clear Michael’s not stupid, he’s just not ready to settle down. Yet, one hopes.

Of course, the entire mission was made more fun with the addition of Charisma Carpenter as Nicki. I forgot how well she does on this type of show, where she gets a mix of action and humor. Someone really needs to give her another series.

A little too late for viewers, we also got a good amount of Tavian Korzha as he took Sam hostage and demanded a meeting with Michael. Sadly, outsmarting Jesse/Sam and killing Stigler didn’t do much to make him scary or threatening. We just haven’t been exposed to him as much as we had with other scary characters such as Simon.

His “I have the answers to questions he doesn’t know to ask yet” was supposed to be suspenseful and dramatic. But it came across as lame because we have no frame of reference for what he knows or what he is capable of. I really hope they wrap up this particular bad guy fairly quickly and give us a bad guy to be afraid of.

The Rule of Cool: It doesn’t matter if something could really be done in real life, it’s permitted in a movie or TV show if the resulting action is cool to watch. Makes sense, right? Matt Nix and his team took full advantage of this during the firefight Michael and Fiona got into with Karina, cranking the cool meter to a kick ass 13.

Here it is by the numbers:

• Michael showing up just in time to whack Karina on the head = 9 (fun)
• Fiona noticing bad guys behind Michael, him noticing bad guys behind her = 10 (cool)
• Fiona pulling weapon and them firing past each other while pressed together = 11 (way cool)
• The two of them turning at the same time to continue shooting = 12 (awesome)
• Michael and Fiona pinning Nicki in between them while they moved and shot = 13 (kick ass!)

This scene summed up everything I watch Burn Notice for; a little romance, a little humor and a lot of action. It was made even more perfect when Fiona told Michael thank you for the quality time after they got out of the mess.

And let’s not forget the big twist: Pearce figured out Michael was involved with Max’s death when she found footage from a law firm camera 30 stories up that got an image of Michael’s car driving past the building.

First, I called it! I have said previously that Michael needed to bring Pearce into the inner circle before she found something on her own. I knew she would not react well if this happened. Let this be a lesson to you, Michael, don’t wait so long to bring in your legit support next time.

Second, this is another scene that follows The Rule of Cool. There isn’t a commercial camera (hi-def or otherwise) that could be setup with a wide angle lens for security that could have gotten enough date in a digital image 30 stories below for anyone (NSA, FBI, Lucas Arts) to get a usable image out of it.

At least there is progress in hunting for Max’s killer as shown on episode 9 “Eye For an Eye.”

TV Fanatic: I was kind of hoping that Lucien would get rescued. It would have given us a glimpse at Michael’s opponent and, given the amount of effort the person went through to frame Michael, you would think he would have done something by now to try and slow him down.

I can appreciate how Matt Nix and his team want to build the mystery around not knowing who killed Max, or why he/she tried to frame Michael, but is it too much to ask for a crumb or two?

After weeks of tiny steps forward and reveals, it feels like we’re trying to judge the weather without a barometer. How strong is this person? What does he/she have against Michael? Is the individual connected to the people who burned Michael?

Speaking of being burned, anyone else notice that Michael hasn’t thought about his obsession with looking into who burned him since he started obsessing over who killed Max? I applaud his priorities of looking for his friend’s murderer, but to forget that other aspect of his life completely? Unexpected.

Also, where was Pearce this week? Not only was she missing, nobody mentioned her. I miss our sassy little agent! I really think her and Jesse need to go out for drinks. Who’s with me?

I’m not sure if this was the strangest way the team has gotten a client, but it had to be close, catching him breaking into the house they were protecting for another client and promptly helping him escape.

I am sure that Stalker Mike is the creepiest persona that Michael has used. I would even say it was almost the scariest, second only to the Mob-Boss Mike persona he adopted when he had to yell and rattle Madeline earlier this season.

Michael has a pretty strong dark side hiding under his well-groomed exterior. Is that what makes him perfect for Fiona, given her love of explosives and all things that go “boom?” I did enjoy the double meaning to many of their comments about their relationship in their conversations about Dan and his ex-wife.

Michael, you welsh on taking Fiona to dinner, and I will come to Miami and steal your entire yogurt stash!

Honestly, I enjoyed the appearance of Rossdale in episode 8 of Burn Notice titled “Hard Out.” There’s no doubt that it’s way better than of the Big Show.

TV Fanatic: Where that WWE behemouth was barely on camera and almost swallowed by the scene, Rossdale – as Armand – was both suave and creepy, receiving a good amount of screen time in the process.

On the flip side, I was upset that Pearce and Jesse didn’t get to talk longer. Her curiosity about why Jesse works with Michael after he destroyed Jesse’s career should increase her trust and respect for Michael.

He is going to need it, too, because, no matter how hard Michael tries to avoid it, there is a storm coming, and Pearce could make the difference.

Can you explain Fiona’s jealousy over Pearce to this simple minded male reviewer? I was as baffled as Michael was when she went into jealous mode.  Michael had clearly said she was a woman; and while attractive, I’d put her on par with Fiona, not above, so I don’t get why Fiona suddenly felt threatened or misinformed.

While we are discussing Fiona’s strange behavior, why did she decide not to tell Michael all the details about Armand, and then to get all hurt when Michael didn’t appreciate what she went through to help him?

And, of course, poor Michael (having no idea,) looked like a monkey doing algebra while he was trying to figure out what Fiona was annoyed about.

Actually, this is a good time to mention something about men in general: Hints don’t work, tell us what you want us to know! Let me be clear: subtle hints don’t work, strong hints don’t work, really obvious hints don’t work… If you want us to know something, tell us!

Fiona, if you want Michael to appreciate what you went through with Armand, you have to tell him prior to getting bent out shape so he can properly digest all the details and thank you!

Actually, I’m surprised Fiona let Armand get into her head at all. She seemed very well guarded when she saw him the first two times, so it was a bit of a shock he was able to rattle her about her relationship with Michael so easily in the last visit.

Come on Fi! You know Michael loves you; you have to have more confidence in your relationship than that!
