Prentiss is definitely coming back on Criminal Minds season 7.

Bringing back the character entails more than Paget Brewster simply showing up on set, though. After her mysterious, open-ended departure this spring, there’s a lot of explaining Prentiss (and the CBS show’s writers) have to do this fall.

The first order of business this season, according to the veteran actress, is “resurrecting” Emily, whose death was a ruse to throw off the infamous Ian Doyle.

The Season 7 premiere, set for September 21, “is about how I have to come back,” Brewster told TV Line, and needless to say, “some people are surprised.”

J.J. and Hotch were in on it, but others, such as Reid and Garcia, were very much not. Expect Matthew Gray Gubler’s character to take the deception hard.

A.J. Cook, who is also returning to Criminal Minds full time this season after a tumultuous campaign that saw her fired, adds that “Relationships will unravel!”

At least there’s one person Emily doesn’t have to worry about: “Some of the gang are peeved,” says Kirsten Vangsness, “but I’m just like, ‘Whee!’ Garcia is happy.”

It is confirmed that Paget Brewster is returning on Criminal Minds season 7. But how?

How her character reemerges and how her fellow BAU members react remain unclear … and complicated. Considering how she left, it will be tough to explain.

Much of the team does not handle finding out that Prentiss is still alive and well, according to TV Line’s Michael Ausiello, “especially Dr. Reid, who feels betrayed.”

With Brewster’s contract status up in the air, her departure from the procedural in the March 16 episode titled “Hanley Waters” was left open-ended for a reason.

Learning that she faked her own death won’t be easy to swallow for Reid, though, and it should be interesting to watch their relationship unfold in the fall.

As for A.J. Cook’s J.J., not only is she back in DC, but she’s getting a promotion!

Criminal Minds seaosn 7 will return on September 21.

Rumors told us that he is gone. But now, Supervisory Agent Aaron Hotchner assures us that he’ll return on Criminal Minds season 7.

Criminal Minds star Thomas Gibson will return to the CBS drama, which is scheduled to begin production on its seventh season in just two weeks’ time.

Gibson has signed on for two years in a deal worth “mid-to-high seven figures,” according to Deadline. That and a signing bonus assures him a huge raise.

It wasn’t known until the last minute if he would return, with the future of Gibson’s character, Supervisory Agent Aaron Hotchner, left open-ended on May’s season finale.

Nevertheless, Gibson had been fulfilling all of his Criminal Minds obligations despite not being signed, indicating optimism that a deal would be struck.

With Gibson and Shemar Moore re-signing, Joe Mantegna, Matthew Gray Gubler and Kristen Vangsness still under contract and Paget Brewster and A.J. Cook returning as regulars after dubious firings last season, the Criminal Minds cast is fully intact.

Indeed, we have a solid cast for season 7. So what are your other expectations?

We know for a fact that A.J. Cook and Paget Brewster are season 7 regulars on Criminal Minds. But will there be any more casting changes? Will Hotchner return on season 7? Read below for the answer.

With shooting set to begin next month, CBS and Thomas Gibson appear to be at an impasse in negotiations to bring Hotchner back for season seven this fall.

Matthew Gray Gubler (Reid) spoke with E! Online at the Monte Carlo TV Festival this week and weighed in on the situations with Gibson, Brewster and Cook:

On whether Gibson will be back: “I honestly have no idea, I hope so. I love Thomas, I think Hotch is important to the show, but Hollywood is a strange place.”

On who would take over in Hotch’s place: “Emily (Brewster), I think, would take over as the chief, or Rossi (Joe Mantegna). We do have a lot of characters.”

I don’t know what they’d do. It would suck but they’d figure something out.”

On the ladies’ return: “We lost Paget Brewster and A.J. Cook for no reason at all, on just on a whim, and that is sort of offensive to me because they’re my friends.”

“They did a good job, and the fans liked them. At the same time I understand we are all grownups and six years ago we signed contracts that said they could fire us.”

“So while I don’t like it, I think there are bigger things to worry about in life. Japan, for example had a huge [tsunami] and has a nuclear mess on its hands.”

On whether this caused on-set tension: “No tension, but it makes it harder because for six years we’ve functioned as a unit and then suddenly it’s different.”

“These are my best friends in life, these actors, so losing them changed everything. And so I’m so glad that the band is back together now.”

“I hope that Thomas doesn’t leave. I think Rachel [Nichols] will leave. Which is sad, she’s a nice girl… it was a tough position she came into but like I said it’s a strange situation.”

“It’s Hollywood. But I know that just because she’s not on the show doesn’t mean I won’t talk to her, she’s a friend and I know I’ll speak with her on the weekends.”

“All I know is we’re going to try to keep on maintaining. The spirit on set is very jovial. I think because it’s such a dark show we have to find things to laugh about.”

So what do you think of this spoiler? What are your expectations for Criminal Minds season 7?

Fans are surely delighted after hearing the news that JJ and Prentiss (Paget Brewster) will return on Criminal Minds season 7 for good.

To give us more details about this casting news, here is an excerpt of the interview with EP Erica Messer by TV Guide.

There will surely be different reactions from the team and fans now that Prentiss is definitely alive. “There will be a lot of tension. Hotch [Thomas Gibson] and JJ [Cook] kept a big secret from the team. Ultimately. those kept in the dark will forgive the others when they find out Prentiss is alive.”

And what about Nichols exit? “It wasn’t an easy decision and it took a village to make it. Having eight characters on Criminal Minds seemed unlikely.  Rachel is a real trouper and a pro. She walked into an incredibly difficult position and handled it with grace. The cast felt she fit in — we’re actually a funny group off-camera — and she will be missed by all of us who worked with her everyday.”

Will she wrap up her character’s story? “As storytellers we hate leaving threads undone. Creatively, there’s more to explore there. I won’t know for a bit if that’s a possibility.”

There is no doubt that the fans’ voices were heard. Their outcry made JJ and Prentiss’ return possible. “Our fans are some of the most loyal I’ve ever known. And they’re not shy. Their love for our show and investment in the characters is beyond encouraging. If their enthusiasm helped everyone see how important the unity of our team is, fantastic.”

Here is the latest casting news for Criminal Minds Season 7.

Months after the show angered fans by bidding farewell to serious regular A.J. Cook, the CBS drama brought her back for the season finale and has now confirmed that the character of J.J. is back for good.

Meanwhile, the network has exercised an option on Paget Brewster, ensuring the presence of Emily Prentiss for the entire 2011-2012 season.

Deadline Hollywood reports the same can’t be said for Rachel Nichols, however. Brought in largely to fill the female void left by Cook’s departure, Nichols will not return this fall to the show.

This is a good move for Criminal Minds, and I’m excited to see season 7.

It is a fact now that A.J. Cook’s return on Criminal Minds is final and permanent. Now that J.J. is back for good on season 7, what can we expect on his character? Will there be changes on J.J.’s role with BAU?

“All I know is, she’s still the coordinator,” Cook said in a recent interview. “I don’t know if the team even needs another profiler. I think she likes her role.”

That said, JJ’s character will offer a new perspective, A.J. says about her alter ego being a full-time profiler. “She’s seen things that these guys haven’t seen, so she’s grown.”

“She’s tougher, more experienced. I think now she may be able to bring more to her role, but I don’t think it’ll be out in the field. She’s still going to be the face of the team.”
