Oscars 2016: ‘Heneral Luna’ Out of Nominations Race

Jerrold Tarog’s Heneral Luna is out of the race for the Best Foreign Language Film category of the 88th Academy Awards after the said movie failed to make it to the shortlist released by  the Academy of Motion Pictures and Sciences.

The following films that were included in the shortlist are the following:

  1. Belgium, “The Brand New Testament,” Jaco Van Dormael, director
  2. Colombia, “Embrace of the Serpent,” Ciro Guerra, director
  3. Denmark, “A War,” Tobias Lindholm, director
  4. Finland, “The Fencer,” Klaus Härö, director
  5. France, “Mustang,” Deniz Gamze Ergüven, director
  6. Germany, “Labyrinth of Lies,” Giulio Ricciarelli, director
  7. Hungary, “Son of Saul,” László Nemes, director
  8. Ireland, “Viva,” Paddy Breathnach, director
  9. Jordan, “Theeb,” Naji Abu Nowar, director

Set during the Philippine-American war, Heneral Luna follows the life of one of Philippine History’s most brilliant military men, General Antonio Luna, as he tries to lead his countrymen against colonial masters new and old, and to rise above their own raging disputes to fulfill the promise of the Philippine Revolution.

The official 2016 Oscars nominations will be released on January 14, 2016.
