I was stunned.

Last night’s Maalaala Mo Kaya or MMK featuring Bugoy Cariño and the last acting appearance of AJ Perez gave us a story of hope, perseverance, love of family, and surpassing the seemingly impossible things.

“Tsinelas” is a story of two brothers who conquered their goal of travelling from Manila to Catbalogan, Samar by foot. Actually, it is not their original plan but it is the only available way given the circumstances and their financial resources. The two traveled for more than 500km experiencing and learning lessons in life on their way through.

Personally, the episode is so touching simply because what they have done seemed like an impossible goal. But they did it and it was not easy. They gathered garbages and anything that can be sold to feed themselves on the way. They slept on the streets. They faced and overcame dangers on the road. All of these were achieved by the two siblings through their love for one another and the common dream that binds them both.

After watching the episode, you will realize that life is never easy. So before we complain on how hard our life seems to be, let us first think that there are others who are even in worse scenarios. Before we complain and blame our Supreme Being for our hardships, let us first look around as we will surely realize that we are even the lucky ones.

We also have dreams and goals in life. This story tells us that there are many ways to achieve such. If the easy one is available then lucky for you. Otherwise, do not easily give up. Work for it, keep focused and get strength from your family.

Overall, “Tsinelas” deserves some awards, both local and international. The story is superb, the acting of AJ and Bugoy is engaging and heartwarming. It is just sad that AJ will not be able to hear this praises directly, but we all know that he is up there reading our feedbacks. The MMK episode is a revelation of AJ’s acting skills. AJ, hats off and hands down to you. You gave us one MMK episode that we will not forget as long as we live. To the real “Tol” and “Dagul,” we also salute you sirs! Both of you are living examples of what a determined Filipino can achieve.

“Tsinelas” is a masterpiece. There’s no doubt about that.
