After the long Christmas break, Castle is back together with its murder-mystery-solver-packed episode. So what happened this week?

TV Fanatic: I had my hesitations going into “Nikki Heat” because this was the first episode really integrating Castle’s movie into the show. After watching, I have to say I couldn’t have been more pleased.

Laura Prepon guest starred as the actress (Natalie) starring in Heat Wave. Although I am fan of Prepon, I can hardly picture her as anything but Donna Pinciotti (from That ’70’s Show). However, I was gladly proven wrong, as Prepon was fantastic in this role, mimicking Beckett perfectly and even managing to pull of the perfect look of the detective.

Bringing in Natalie was another great way to depict the connection between Castle and Beckett, as well as Ryan and Esposito. The tables turned with their feelings toward Natalie, and it showed Beckett’s emotions watching the actress maul her writer.

Having Natalie call out Beckett on their relationship was priceless, as she delivered some of the funniest quotes of the hour; first, asking if Castle was gay because he turned her down; and then calling his writing of Beckett “verbal masturbation. Both were just what we needed in an episode where Castle wasn’t delivering his usual amount of one-liners.

Being a fan of the Castle/Beckett relationship has caused me to desire action between the two sooner rather than later. But something Natalie said showed why this relationship has so many viewers rooting for them: Less is more.

We get a little bit of this couple each week, just enough to build up the excitement and see that there is a foundation between the two, not just physical attraction.

Detective Ryan got more screen time than usual, as well, and it was well deserved. His proposal to his girlfriend was a nice change from the twisty murders and I hope he continues to get more stories on his own. We also have another relationship to to look forward to. Yes, I’m looking at you, Esposito and Lanie.

Although Castle receives critical praise, it’s never up for any real awards. This drives me crazy because it finds a balance between the weekly case and all the relationship drama that cannot be easy to do. You could actually watch Castle on mute and still be entertained because the actors are the best in the game at wearing their emotions. Take a look at Beckett’s face when Castle had the engagement ring in her hand. Priceless.

So what do you think about this episode? Did you like it as well?

In my opinion, it is indeed a solid one hour episode for Castle this week. “Last Call” gives us another does of our favorite detectives and some enjoyable one-liners. TV Fanatic tells more about this episode below.

The case focused on the murder of a man who owned a legendary New York bar that had previously been a speak easy. Once again, Castle excelled at using history to its advantage, providing storylines from interesting eras that you won’t see on many other shows.

The idea of The Old Haunt being a speak easy was brilliant. It was a legendary place providing memories to many, including Castle. Having the writer purchase the bar was also an interesting turn. Let’s hope that we get to see more of the prohibition hot spot.

Who did not love seeing an old picture of Castle hanging in the establishment? I have to agree with Beckett that our mystery author was quite cutie in his day!

Not much happened outside of the murder, which suited this episode fine. The case brought many twists and did not leave much room for movement in the characters’ personal lives. This also was a plus, seeing there was no mention of Gina.

Having Castle and the gang sing some Billy Joel: cute or corny? I am going to go with a little bit of both. As cliche as this was, I cannot resist a chance to see the detectives enjoy themselves as friends.

So this looks to be our last new episode until after the holidays. We have a few things to look forward into the new year, including the return of the triple killer and some clues about Beckett’s mother’s case.

I know that this is something that most, if not all, Castle fans has been waiting for.

As the following on-set picture depicts, Castle and Beckett will go on a stakeout during a January episode and, while we don’t know the events that lead to this development, we do know the outcome:

The partners will finally kiss. See the picture below.

Here is an interesting Castle spoiler straight from TV Guide:

Producer Andrew Marlowe tells TV Guide his show will return to the issue of Beckett’s murdered mother in January.

“There will be some closure; we’ll have some understanding as to exactly why Joanna Beckett was killed,” Marlowe says. “The audience will find out how high the conspiracy goes and the elements that we’re dealing with. I think it can provide us with an interesting insight into [future] storytelling.”

We all know that the last episode is not that impressive. But sad to say, Castle still fails to rebound with this episode.

According to TV Fanatic, the show got back to what it does best: unrealistic cases and witty banter. However, this case was almost too far-fetched. Much like last week, the installment jumped around a lot, from an alien abduction to a Chinese spy in the last few minutes. The writing was great, but the mystery wasn’t especially interesting.

Still, it’s worth mentioning that Nathan Fillion is such an amazing actor. There is a reason why this man has such a cult following. The man is genius with his facial expressions, and I, for one, could watch a whole hour of him doing just that.

The big guest star of this episode was Lyle Lovett, who seemed like he would be a perfect actor for this case. He’s sorta creepy looking, fitting right into an alien storyline. His character was completely underused, though. Any no-name actor could have played this role, as Lovett deserved a better part.

Having just a small amount of screen time for Lanie this week made me wish that we would see her more. Here’s hoping for some increased interaction between her and the detectives.

Once again, no Gina or mystery surgeon. As I have said before, let’s pray the writers have realized the problems with this arc and have decided to let it just disappear.

On the Castle/Beckett front, how could you not love the longing looks in the car, as well as the asking where each other was when being interrogated? I am a sucker for these two and can’t wait for some forward movement.

Lets admit it, there are lots of debate on what will happen with Castle and Beckett. So it seems that you are on the right place because now we have some answers!

Says Nathan Fillion on the topic:

“They’ve been very good about exploring this will-they-or-won’t-they relationship, and this year a new twist on it is that they are both in separate but viable relationships. And it’s not, ‘Oh my god, it’s so obvious that person’s so wrong for them, but real, honest, great people who are deserving of love and trust in these relationships.'”

Stana Katic also spoke to E! News on the matter and seems excited to get Beckett and Castle together at some point:

“I always feel naive saying that I think that characters can get together and still have a spicy relationship. I don’t mind if they get together. I think that they fit and fill each other’s lives really well. He’s her perfect opposite, she’s his perfect opposite, and in some ways they are each other’s perfect parallel, because they are both really passionate about the same thing, which is solving crimes.”

            Satisfied with the answers?

Another fun Castle episode this week? Sure it is!

According to TV Fanatic, the episode “Almost Famous” was true Castle all the way: witty one liners, an outrageous case, some screen time for Martha and Alexis, and no sight of Gina anywhere. Perfection.

The murder mystery focused on the death of a male stripper, giving us a chance to witness Castle and Beckett in a strip club. This couldn’t have been a funnier scenario. Castle was not impressed with the played-out firemen act, and Beckett looked fantastic in that little black dress she was rocking.

Maybe the best part of the whole hour focused on Ryan and Esposito, who are always dependable for some laughs. The two visited the stripper’s boss, who offered Ryan a job because he kept getting requests for that Twilight kid! Esposito didn’t get an offer because they already had enough “A-Rods.”

Did anyone else notice the girl with the poof that was interviewed by the detectives? She mentioned the names of Sammie, Ronnie, and Vinny. Gotta love a Jersey Shore shout out.

That is part of the reason I love this show. Sure, some of the cases are extreme and a little absurd. But the writing is always fantastic, the acting is great, the one-liners are the best, and they still find ways to throw in some pop culture.

The investigation was not one of my favorites. It started out fun, but the twists and turns introduced characters that were not necessary. More time spent in The Package Shop would have improved this episode.

“Almost Famous” was not Castle’s best installment, but was still enjoyable. Another episode without Gina is always a good one, and I’m intrigued to meet Beckett’s surgeon boyfriend.

So what do you think about this episode?

Well, for fans out there who want to see more handsome faces on Castle, here is a big news for you.

Gilles Marini – the former Brothers & Sisters star, Dancing with the Stars contestant and future Royal Pains guest star – will come on board the ABC hit as a magician.

According to TV Guide, the actor will portray Tobias Strange, one of the main suspects in the murder of a New York City magic-shop owner. He’ll appear on the installment titled “Poof, You’re Dead,” slated to air in early 2011.

Late last week, Castle also announced that Laura Prepon will play the actress who brings Nikki Heat to the big screen.

So what do you think of this development?

As intriguing as its title is this week’s episode of Castle entitled “3XK.”

TV Fanatic shares their observation. The Triple Killer provided fans with the possibility of a recurring murderer, played guest star Michael Mosley (from HBO’s critically acclaimed Generation Kill).

I am hoping the writers decide to bring this story back on another episode later this year. Although Castle does not rely on serialized elements often, the best storyline to date carried on beyond one week. Remember last season’s two-parter featuring Dana Delaney? It was the most enjoyable and tension-filled case I’ve seen on the show.

“3XK” provided the same feeling. The twists and turns were so unexpected. My eyes were glued to the screen for the full hour. I definitely think this could be a start to an interesting story arc for our favorite detectives.

Lee Tergesen guest starred, as well, playing his part perfectly. His stares alone were enough to creep me out. Having also appeared in Generation Kill, Tergesen is best known for his work on Oz. This man should absolutely stick to roles involving crimes because he is mesmerizing in the role of a criminal.

The writers threw one small moment of the Beckett/Castle relationship at us, a quick hand-holding scene at the end of the episode. Just a baby step, but I can’t wait until there is some real action between these two.

This week’s episode of Castle has one question: Would you break your love out of prison?

TV Fanatic: The latest installment of Castle, “Anatomy of a Murder,” was a solid hour of twists and turns leading us from a murder mystery right down to a love story.

On the personal front, Castle’s ex wife/current girlfriend, Gina, finally popped back up. Her character is totally useless, so much so that her own daughter calls her by her first name. Moreover, she totally stole Castle’s thunder with the Taylor Swift tickets. So not cool.

Seeing her and Castle back in the same scene really displayed the lack of chemistry in this relationship. As I have said in the past reviews, Gina needs to go.

The case of the week, meanwhile, explored the murder of a doctor found in someone else’s casket during a funeral. This may have been the best place to find a body throughout Castle’s run so far. Not only did the pallbearers drop the casket, but two bodies fell out. Could you imagine?!?

The murder mystery of Dr. Monroe really led us to the idea of love. The elaborate scheme used by Greg McClintock to break his girlfriend out of prison… that is some serious commitment. Martha told Castle that if you are willing to break someone out of prison, you have true love. This conversation led to my favorite moment of the whole hour: Beckett told Castle not to worry, that she would always get him out. Here is hoping for some development on the Castle/Beckett front – and quick.

Overall, a pretty good hour of our favorite mystery writer.
