NBC claims that The Voice will be a singing competition different from the rest. The premiere proved it so, but I am a bit confused on the format.

In the end, though, the show will morph into a very familiar format that will take the whole “blind audition” hook out of the equation almost completely.

When it does, it will be interesting to see if these judges and these hopefuls can maintain the significant buzz its premiere generated Tuesday night.

So here is The Voice format. Hope it can help.

  1. Judges Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green, Blake Shelton and Adam Levine “draft” eight singers to form a “team” via “blind auditions.” The singers perform for the judges, whose backs are turned. If one of the coaches is interested, they turn.
  2. If he/she’s the only judge to turn, that vocalist is on his/her team.
  3. If more than one coach turns, then the vocalist must choose teams.
  4. Each coach chooses eight singers and then personally trains them.
  5. In Round 2, each coach cuts half the members of his/her own team.
  6. In the finals, the 16 remaining singers perform live. Viewers vote.
  7. The victor receives $100,000 and a record deal.
So what do you think of this new singing competition format offered by The Voice?
